Project 3 was when I think I got the hang of using sources to the best of my ability. At this time I still feel that there is one spot in that paper near the end that I could have done a better job but, at the end of the day I feel that I have significantly improved from the beginning of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I would use one source per body paragraph, I would also just throw them into my writing. I would not even introduce them at the start of my paper. For project 3 we had to use a source that was introduced at the very beginning of the semester and work it off of a bunch of other sources that had accumulated over the course of these 14 weeks. To start off we had to use “Consider the Lobster” by David Foster Wallace as our primary text for project 3. I chose to use a podcast from Caitlyn Doughty and a reading by Hal Herzog as complementary pieces to “Consider the Lobster”. In the beginning of my essay I thought I did a solid job introducing them. Moving into my first body paragraph through the second paragraph I start to see where I have developed from the beginning of the year until now. As I get to the third body paragraph I could have done a better job integrating my sources. It is clear at this point that I had run out of steam. It is unfortunate that this happen but I felt that if I kept reworking my writing it would have only made it worse. Looking back on it I regret not trying to push through the roadblock. At the time I just felt like there was nowhere else for me to go with it and I had a lot of other things going on. Through reading They Say/I Say, I learned a lot about stating my opinion with those of others through quotes and paraphrasing. I now know that it is clear that we use the opinions of others to support why we feel our own is right. This is why it is so important that we know how to integrate these elements into our papers effectively.
